Ralph Giordano - Holocaust survivor, documentary filmmaker and author of 23 books - is one of the most prominent contemporary witnesses in Germany. In the interview, he speaks about his decision to stay in the Federal Rebublic after the liberation, and explifies his motivation for the journalistic work. He also tells about his experiences during school visits, describes the significance and the acutal behavior towards contemporary witnesses and depicts the changes in the German remembrance culture in course of time. Besides, Ralph Giordano adresses today's partly worrying developments in Germany. The interview is being held in German.

Ralph Giordano
Ralph Giordano was born in 1923 in Hamburg. Since 1933, he went to the prestigious secondary school "Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums". As a child of a jewish mother, he was exposed to repressions from the very first day and repeatedly interrogated and tortured by the Gestapo. 1940, he was finally expelled from school. The family escasped the deporation thanks to a Hamburger woman who provided shelter until the end of the war. After the liberation in 1945, Ralph Giordano stayed in Germany and worked as journalist, publicist, documentary filmmaker, and author. In March 2013, he celebrated his 90th birthday.
