The multimedia archive projects "Forced Labor 1939-1945. Memory and History" and "Witnesses of the Shoah. The Visual History Archive in School Education" will present their educational materials for the first time at the education fair "didacta 2010". The Center for Digital Systems at Freie Universität (CeDiS) at the Freie Universität Berlin explores both archives for scholarly work as well as for the class room. The fair will take place in Cologne from March 16th to March 20th. The CeDiS booth is located in hall 6, booth number Nummer B-054. We look forward to your visit there!
"Forced Labor 1939-1945"
The project "Forced Labor 1939-1945" presents educational materials in terms of two DVDs and a teachers booklet. The one video DVD is supposed to be shown in class containing five short interviews with eyewitnesses along with supporting photo material and two background films about forced labor and the online archive. The second DVD contains learning software for students to work with at the computer lab or at home. It includes eyewitness portraits, tasks, animated maps and timelines as well as a comprehensive dictionary.
"Witnesses of the Shoah"
The "Witnesses of the Shoah" project presents the first DVD of its DVD series. It is about the topic of "Resisting". Three survivors report on the different aspects of resistance against National Socialism. Supporting materials for the interview tasks help students to link the memory from personal history into the historical context. "Witnesses of the Shoah" is based on the "Visual History Archive", the world's largest historical video archive including almost 52.000 interviews with survivors and eyewitnesses of the holocaust.
