"I am the Voice of the Six Millions." – New Essay Collection on Video Interviews With Survivors
The collection of the Foundation “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” includes contributions about archiving and exploring/indexing video interviews of survivors including texts on the projects "Forced Labor 1939-1945" and "Visual History Archive". Being the voice of the murdered on the one hand and on the other speaking as "I" – this is what many holocaust survivors consider to be their task and responsibility.
News from Feb 08, 2010
The Foundation “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” has now published the collection "'I am the Voice of the Six Millions.' The Video Archive at the Information Center" (available in German only, title: "'Ich bin die Stimme der sechs Millionen.' Das Videoarchiv im Ort der Information"). Based on lectures on the occasion of the opening of the Information Center below the Field of Stelae in September 2008 the collection presents scholarly introductions, biographic analyses, didactical considerations and portraits of other interview projects.
The different contributions throw lights on the history, importance and analysis of video testimonies as well as on opportunities and challenges with their presentation and on the use for educational work. Besides the Fortunoff Collection interviews at the “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” other interview collections are presented as well, including three contributions by the CeDiS-team working with multimedia archives:
