Conference: Digital Humanities and Biographical Research

From June 23rd to 24th, 2017 a workshop on "Digital Humanities and Biographical Research" took place at the FernUniversität in Hagen.
Being a central research institution in the field of historical biographical research, which furthermore owns a significant collection of life story interviews (Archive "German Memory"), the Institute of History and Biography of the FernUniversität Hagen aimed with the conference to examine the importance of digitalization for its archiving, edition and expolaration.
Key topics of the conference were the fields of digital collection and publication of audiovisual biographical sources, computer based analysis (text and voice recognition) as well as the visualization of biographical data material. A critical reflection on the use of digital methods accompanied the discussions.
At the conference CeDiS-employee Dr. Cord Pagenstecher held a lecture on digital oral history archives.
