November 24 - 26, 2011: Presentation of educational material at workshop in North Rhine Westphalia
News from Nov 18, 2011
On November 25, 2011 Dr. Cord Pagenstecher presents the educational material of the online archive "Forced Labor 1939-1945" at an expert meeting and teachers' training in Oberhausen. The main topic of the three-day seminar including a visit of the new permanent exhibition at Gedenkhalle Oberhausen, is Forced Labor.
Accompanying the project "Forced Labor 1939-1945", the Freie Universitaet Berlin developed educational material “Video Testimonies for School Education". They were published in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education. “Video Testimonies for School Education: Video DVD – Learning Software – Teachers’ Book” support competence-oriented learning in the classroom, on class project days, and in exam presentations.
In a video DVD, five survivors recount their experiences in camps and factories. Additional films provide background information about forced labor, indemnification and about the online-archive. The learning software provides additional tasks, maps, transcripts and photos, informational texts and tips on methods of use, as well as a timeline and lexicon. An accompanying teachers’ book assists in the preparation of teaching, providing informational texts, suggestions for tasks and worksheets.
The DVDs and teachers’ book are available at the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education).
In the seminar, DVDs, materials and working methods will be presented, tested at the computer and discussed.
The seminar is a cooperation of: Arbeitskreis der NS-Gedenkstätten und NS-Erinnerungsorte in NRW e.V., Bildungswerk der Humanistischen Union, Gedenkhalle Oberhausen and Volkshochschule Oberhausen, supported by Landeszentrale für politische Bildung NRW.
