On September 30th, 2010, Dr. Cord Pagenstecher presented the educational materials from the project “Forced Labor 1939-1945” at the teacher training workshop “Forced labor under National Socialism in schools and the classroom” at the Jewish Museum in Berlin. The workshop for teachers and educators took take place as part of the accompanying program of the Special Exhibition: “Forced Labor. The Germans, the Forced Laborers, and the War”.
While the Holocaust is clearly an integral part of the history curriculum, the phenomena of Nazi forced labor is often not dealt with in the classroom. How can historical competencies and media skills be conveyed with an emphasis on specific themes? Who were the perpetrators? How were they held accountable? Along with the educational program accompanying the exhibition, educational materials developed at the Freie Universität Berlin were also presented.
