Some elements of the learning software, such as the definition of important terms, the biographical “life” cards, the timeline, the interactive maps for countries of origin as well as the interactive map of compensation are also available online.
Further Information
In short films 25 minutes in length, five former forced laborers talk about their initial abduction, their experience in the camps and factories, the behavior of the Germans and how they were treated after returning home. The two background films focus on the topic of forced labor and compensation as well as information on the development and possible uses for the interview collection.
The skills-based task suggestions tie directly in with the films and can be performed in a working window in the educational software. To assist with the tasks, more than 150 additional materials can be used. These include the witness’ own private photos, historical documents, transcripts, translations, informative texts and tips for use. The animated map, timeline and glossary on Nazi forced labor convey the historical context. However, the witness interviews still remain the main focus of the work.
In the clear user interface, the material has been separated into one section entitled “people” and another called “background”, making it easy for students to use after they have received a basic introduction. Task-guided learning is encouraged as well as intuitive thinking. Flexible printing and expert options and tips for further activities will make preparing presentations as well as delving deeper into the topic a much easier process.
